Repositioning Equity as a Systems Issue
When we talk about disparities between white people and people of color, like different health or school outcomes, we risk reinforcing the negative stereotypes that people already have about racial difference or individual responsibility. Instead, we need to show how inequity is a consequence of outdated systems that don’t reflect our current values. Systems that, when fixed, will make all our lives better. Leaders who can reposition equity as a collective, systems issue help more people see their stake in achieving it.
